Have you ever read through the Oprah Magazine’s list of “favorite things”? I used to love looking through it. However, I noticed that many of the items were very expensive and not practical for most of us- if you look up the 2016 list, the first item is a poinsetta flower pot cake for $165.
What about a list of “fabulously frugal favorite things” instead- a list of things that I love and use, while being great quality for the price, and actually affordable compared to a tiny $165 cake?
So here are the “fabulously frugal” items I’ve been enjoying this spring! Everything on the list is fantastic and under $15!
1- SheaMoisture Olive Oil & Green Tea Body Wash, $8.99, target.com
This is the best bodywash I’ve found in a long time. It has a pleasant fragarance without being overpowering, and is so luxuriously rich that a little bit goes a long way. It’s free of many of the questionable ingredients found in most mainstream body care products like artificial fragrance, parabens, SLS, pthalates, etc.
2- Burt’s Bees Ultimate Care Hand Cream, $9.53, target.com
This has been amazing for my dry hands. It is rich, non-greasy, and has a pleasant yet not overpowering scent. Bonus points for being a more naturally based product!
3- High Road Cherry Almond Chip Ice Cream, $4.99, highroadcraft.com
I don’t usually buy ice cream anymore, but I saw this and had to try it. I’m so glad I did- it has real cherry and chocolate chunks (vs. artificial fruit flavor and “chocolate flavored chips”), and the taste is divine. If you’re looking for a small splurge at the end of a long week- this is it!
4- Monteli Tuscan Garden Pizza, $7
I’ve tried so many different kinds of frozen pizzas, and been disappointed by most. It seems as if a frozen pizza usually gets only one thing right- the crust, the sauce, or the toppings. But this pizza gets ALL three things right at the same time, and it’s amazing. It doesn’t have cheese, so I add feta, or a sprinkle of goat cheese and curry powder. Consider one of these the next time you’re thinking about ordering delivery pizza- there’s no pizza delivery charges and for about the same price, it’s organic!
5- Personalized Notepads, $14.99, shutterfly.com
If you enjoy being creative but no longer have the time/space for supplies, Shutterfly is a great alternative. It’s pretty quick and easy to design a notepad with the many styles available, and they even have meal plan/to-do list style ones!
6- Earth’s Essentials Versatile 16 Ounce Refillable Designer Pump Bottles, $12.95/two, amazon.com
I am oddly excited to never. buy soap dispensers. again. I had dispensers with metal pumps and they got discolored, pitted, and covered in rust. I bought new ones, and it happened again. Finally I found these all plastic ones on Amazon, and they have been great!
7- Hohner Kids MT608 Musical Toys Percussion Effect – Assorted Colors, $11.99, amazon.com
This has been a great toy! What I love about this is that the cymbals are encased in plastic, so a baby can’t get cut on their sharp metal edges. It’s easy to clean and the perfect size for an older baby or toddler.
8- Skip Hop On-the-Go Snug Seal Baby Wipes Case, $7.20/two, amazon.com
You don’t realize how important it is to have a good baby wipes case until your cheap one has allowed baby wipes to leak all over the contents of your bag. I love that this one has a silicone seal to keep moisture in, and is translucent so you can see when you’re running low on wipes. It also has a handle so you can clip it to other things, and an “inner spring” that pushes baby wipes towards the top opening so that they’re easier to remove from the case.
9- Pogo Tritan Kid’s Chug Water Bottle – 18 oz, $6.99, target.com
As with the wipes case, I’ve had water bottles that have leaked all over my bag. But not this one- it says “leak proof” and it holds up to its promise. I like that it has a lid over the water spout to keep it clean and you can put it in the dishwasher. It’s also BPA, Phthalate, PVC and lead free.
10- Blue Sky 2017 Weekly & Monthly Planner, $11.50, amazon.com
This planner has a slim design so it fits in your bag easily, and it has both weekly and monthly page layouts for easier planning. I like that it has a clean and simple layout- no extra border designs or quotes that take up space. The tabs are reinforced so they will stand up better to daily use.
